TV/FILM

I have worked in and around the film and television industries for many years. Below is a selection of work that I've directed and/or shot and edited.

DOCUMENTARY

Three clips from documentaries: A Rebel Act was made as part of RTE's 'Poem for Ireland' campaign and shortlisted for the 2019 Prix Italia, The Big Idea followed a Young Scientist Award winner to Ethiopia to test her new stove - it was a Radhaic Award finalist and IFTA shortlisted. Better Off Abroad examines the Irish experience of living in Hong Kong. This clip focusses the issues of housing and democracy.

A PAIR OF OLD SHORTS

Death's Mailing (clip) (2002) won awards in Galway, Rome, Cyprus and the UK, and played in two New York festivals and the Cannes Short Film Corner. It's a black comedy/drama concerning two 19th century bodysnatchers who turn to murder to help meet the demand for cadavers made by the Dublin's flourishing medical schools. The House that Matt Built (2004) is a short documentary about a house in Galway. The narration is fantasy, the rest is true. It was officially selected by the Galway and Darklight film festivals.

WARNING - these 2 film clips contain adult themes.

CORPORATE

Three corporate productions: An introduction to the HRBR clinic, a teaser for a series of videos made for Publicart.ie (see ARTS section above for an example), and a short film made as part of a tender document to re-purpose the old ferry terminal in Dun Laoghaire.

CHILDREN"S

I made programmes within RTE's Young People's Department for about 5 years during which time, among many other things, we built an aeroplane for Elev8's attempt at the Flugtag, recreated Victorian Dublin (regularly) for Gory Stories and travelled the country chatting to hundreds of children for Kidspeak.

ARTS

Five videos: Willow Weaver and Woodturner were made as part of RTE jnr's series 'Makers', Reflectors was made for Publicart.ie, the interview with Marina Abramovich and the sequence from Warhorse were made for RTE's 'The Works'.

MUSIC

Five videos: One was a video produced for Dublin's Casual Choir at the start of the pandemic, If Only I Had the Time is an independent music video for Irish singer-songwriter Bairbre Ann, Pachabel's Canon was made for/by the pupils of the Kilternan School of Music to raise money for Childline, and The Staves and Amelia Curren were filmed for RTE's 'The Works'.
